Canada permits the filing of an application to register a trade-mark based only on the assertion that it is intended that the trade-mark be used in Canada.1 An applicant must, however, be careful how he/she/it expresses that intention in the application. If the applicant's intention is to have a licensee use the mark, then at the time of filing the application, the statement of intention must reflect that fact.2
