ISLAND COMMODORE

Guernsey-based Commodore Ferries of St. Sampson's recently inaugurated a new ro-ro freighter. The vessel, completed by Netherlands-based Royal Schelde, can carry 95 trailers of 12m long plus cars. Named as the 'Island Commodore', the vessel currently is the largest ro-ro vessel employed on a freight service on the Channel Island routes. The Island Commodore' has a service speed of over 18 knots and is equipped to carry 12 drivers/passengers, accommodated in single-berth cabins with separate sanitary facilities plus a large dining/lounge area. The vessel is manned by a crew complement of 19 also accommodated in single-berth cabins with private sanitary facilities.
