Mechanical problems at sea are obviously a major worry for shipping lines, especially when they are carrying a very high-value cargoes. The Swedish line Wallenius, a world leader in car carrying, was experiencing leakage from the fuel oil pumps in the first vessels in its new fleet of carriers. In addition to the problems caused by the leakage, it also proved difficult to obtain suitable replacement parts for the pumps. Switching to IMO pumps solved these problems.
