NAHMA Seeks Elimination of Prohibition on Full-Time Students

The National Affordable Housing Management Asso-ciation (NAHMA) wants Congress to eliminate the low-income housing tax credit program's general prohibition against renting to full-time student households as part of a uniform student eligibility rule for properties with tax credits and HUD assistance. "Clear policy guidance on student occupancy is required when both LIHTC and HUD programs are combined," says an analysis and policy statement issued August 30 by NAHMA. "We respectfully suggest that eligible income-qualified students should be permitted to live in mixed subsidy properties — and in LIHTC units even when HUD subsidies are not present."
