New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and City Comptroller William Thompson Jr. have proposed the creation of an affordable housing trust fund which would use about $130 million in surplus funds from the Battery Park City Authority (BPCA) through 2008. Along with other financing, the funds would help create or preserve an estimated 4,500 affordable housing units over the next four years. The trust fund would contribute an additional 3,000 units to the mayor's New Housing Marketplace plan announced three years ago, increasing the goal from the original 65,000 affordable units to 68,000 by 2008.
