The New Markets tax credit (NMTC) program has reached $8 billion in investment allocations with the third-round distribution of $2 billion in tax credit authority to 41 community development entities (CDEs) announced by Treasury Secretary John W. Snow May 11. The winning third-round recipients were selected from 208 applications requesting a total of $22.9 billion in allocations. The allocations ranged from $5 million to $100 million and average award was approximately $48,780,000. The $15 billion, seven-year program has two rounds to go, with $3.5 billion to be allocated annually in fiscal 2006 and 2007, and program advocates are gearing up to push for an extension.
