NYCHA Board Adopts Savings Plan, Seeks Action for Balanced Budget

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) board commissioners has adopted a savings plan for fiscal 2006 to reduce a projected $182.3 million deficit to about $168 million and has directed managers to draw up further plans that would lead the housing authority toward a balanced budget. NYCHA has an annual budget of about $1.5 billion. It currently administers 345 public housing developments which house 417,328 residents and 86,000 Section 8 vouchers.
