Wisconsin Uses Statutory Changes To Give 2008 Tax Credit Projects Additional Financial Assistance

The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) is taking steps to give projects with 2008 low-income housing tax credits additional financial help. WHEDA announced the changes in an October 13 memorandum as part of its plan for implementing tax relief provided by recent federal economic recovery legislation. Under the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act (H.R. 1424), areas in the Midwest where a major disaster was declared after May 20, 2008, and before August 1, 2008, are eligible for an additional $8 per capita in low-income housing tax credits for 2008 through 2010. Wisconsin expects to receive $30 million in disaster relief credits for 2008 for use in the counties of Adams, Calumet, Crawford, Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Grant, Green, Green Lake, Iowa, Jefferson, Juneau, Kenosha, La Crosse, Marquette, Manitowoc, Milwaukee, Monroe, Ozaukee, Racine, Richland, Sauk, Sheboygan, Vernon, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha, and Winnebago.
