New Orleans Housing Authority Plans for Iberville Redevelopment

The Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) hopes to use a $31 million Choice Neighborhoods implementation grant as seed money for a multi-year redevelopment of the distressed Iberville-Treme neighborhood, which includes the 821-unit Iberville public housing project. Only 465 of the units are currently occupied. HANO is among 42 applicants for a total of $62 million in Choice Neighborhoods implementation grants. HUD plans to award two to four grants to fund plans to comprehensively redevelop neighborhoods that have distressed housing and a concentration of poverty.
