Agencies Seeking REO Disposition Options for GSEs, FHA That Include Support for Affordable Housing

The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), HUD, and the Treasury Department are seeking proposals for new options to dispose of single-family real estate owned (REO) properties held by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and FHA. A request for information (RFI) has been posted on the FHFA web site, and responses are due by September 15. The objective of the RFI, according to the agencies, is to address the current and future REO inventory of the government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs) and FHA, looking for ways to maximize value to taxpayers and increase private investment in housing, including approaches that support rental and affordable housing needs.
