May HAMP Report Shows 633,459 Active Permanent Modifications

The latest report on the Obama Administration's Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP) for homeowners facing foreclosure shows that there were 633,459 active permanent mortgage modifications at the end of May. In addition, there were 126,751 active trial modifications. Since the inception of the program in April 2009, lenders initiated 1,614,723 trial modification plans. Of that total, 756,521 were canceled during the trial stage, and 97,992 were canceled after converting to permanent modifications. The latter figure includes 1,382 loans that were paid off.
