MBA Weekly Survey Shows Decrease In Mortgage Applications; Refinance Index Also Drops

Mortgage applications decreased 4.6% from one week earlier, according to data from the Mortgage Bankers Association's (MBA) Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey for the week ending August 16, 2013, released August 21, 2013. The Market Composite Index, a measure of mortgage loan application volume, decreased 4.6% on a seasonally adjusted basis from one week earlier. On an unadjusted basis, the Index decreased 5% compared with the previous week. The Refinance Index decreased 8% from the previous week. The Refinance Index has dropped 62.1% from the recent peak reached during the week of May 3, 2013. The seasonally adjusted Purchase Index increased 1% from one week earlier. The unadjusted Purchase Index decreased 0.4% compared with the previous week and was 5% higher than the same week one year ago.
