Maine Governor Janet Mills (D-ME) has signed several pieces of bipartisan clean energy legislation into law. LD 1679 establishes the Maine Climate Council, which will develop action plans to meet the state's ambitious clean energy goals and promote jobs and economic benefits in the transition to a lower carbon economy. LD 1711 is projected to result in the development of over 400 megawatts of distributed solar power and create over 500 new jobs by bringing regulatory predictability and a competitive marketplace to reduce energy costs. It uses competitive markets to drive down costs, and has requirements and options to increase access to solar for low- and median-income households.
