Marriott East Side Steps Up As Style Ante Is Raised In Manhattan Hotels

New York Say "Marriott" and consumers are likely to think of a consistent, contemporary hotel room that looks the same from London to New Orleans to San Francisco. The New York Marriott East Side in midtown Manhattan, however, has more character and history than a typical urban Marriott. First, it dates back to the mid-1920s, when it was the largest hotel in the world, and artist Georgia O'Keefe was once commissioned to paint the hotel's exterior. More recently, the opening of Star-wood's flagship W hotel across the street sent a warning shot toward all neighbors that fashionable hotel interiors would become competitive issues.
