We present our latest issue as the Luxury Issue knowing full well that there's a bit of irony here. Luxury? In this economy? Who's buying luxury these days? Who's building it?rnAnd yet…a whole raft of recently built luxury properties fall on our desks throughout the year, so we know they exist, even if they were planned before the economic downturn.rnAdditionally, the most recent issue of Hotel Yearbook, a terrific compendium of articles on industry experts forecasting the future of the hotel biz, offers two cogent articles on the future of luxury hotels. One is by Howard Wolff, senior vice president, WATG, who writes, "bling has blung" in reference to a general consumer trend identified by Sonu Shivdasani, president and CEO of Six Senses Resorts and Spas, as "moving away from conspicuous consumption to conscientious consumption."
