It was quite a ride. Executive shake-ups. New retailers arriving on the scene. Legacy retailers trying to reposition their businesses. And across most of the year, highly uneven performances in the home department. Before we charge into 2016, we're taking a look back at some of the most significant events in retailing for the year gone by. The clouds began to gather in the fall of 2014, when the West Coast dock-workers' labor contract expired. By late October, deliveries were backing up. By the time January rolled around, retailers and suppliers were scrambling to divert deliveries to other ports. Critical goods, especially those tied to promotional events, got loaded into planes to ensure timely delivery. All of it came at a cost.
