Welspun became the public face of the long-running opacity in the Egyptian cotton supply chain. Target severed its relationship with the manufacturer when the content of its Egyptian cotton sheets could not be verified. Walmart, JPCenney and Bed Bath & Beyond pulled similar sheet programs from their shelves but maintained their business with the conglomerate. In the fall, Welspun was awarded U.S. Patent protection for an interactive textile and augmented reality system of products it developed to bring static designs to life. It also launched a multi-category collection of infant, toddler and children's bedding under license with designer Amy Coe.
