Paris-based Tarkett is shifting its manufacturing footprint in North America as part of its efforts to optimize operations and better anticipate and respond to the needs and demands of this market. All manufacturing activities in Canada - including plants in Waterloo, Ontario, and Truro, Nova Scotia - are being relocated to two existing US facilities. As a result, both Canadian sites are being permanently shut down by or before yearend. The Waterloo plant produces flooring accessories, and the Truro plant manufactures commercial carpet rolls for the Tandus Centiva division, which also offers custom area rugs to the residential market. Accessories produced in Waterloo will be moved to the recently expanded Chagrin Falls, Ohio site. Products currently manufactured in Truro will be transferred to Dalton, specifically the carpet facility acquired with the purchase of Lexmark in September 2018. Tarkett offers a broad range of flooring products, including carpet and area rugs via its Tandus Centiva division as well as vinyl, linoleum, rubber, wood, laminate, artificial turf and athletics tracks. The company said this consolidation is expected to reduce its cost base in North America and generate the planned cost synergies anticipated from the Lexmark acquisition.
