The fact that consumers now place a higher value on having experiences than amassing "things" is a bedevilment to the producers and sellers of consumer products. But it's great news for the hospitality industry, which provides consumers with the temporary lodgings they occupy while they travel in pursuit of those experiences. An outlook for the hospitality sector for 2018 issued this past May predicted record occupancy of 66.3% for the U.S. market and room supply growth of 2.0%. In a key metric for the hospitality industry, the average daily rate (ADR) growth - the amount charged per room - was expected to increase 3.0%.
