FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR SOLID-STATE MANUFACTURERS

The Department of Energy is offering funding to companies that can reduce the costs of solid-state light (SSL) sources for general illumination through improvement in manufacturing equipment, processes, or monitoring techniques. The projects should address the technical challenges that must be overcome before prices fall to a level where SSL will become competitive with existing lighting on a first-cost basis. Another consideration is a way to improve product consistency. The ultimate goal is to establish the U.S. as a global manufacturing leader and help create jobs.
