This is a very important volume in many ways, but perhaps most critically in that there simply is a dearth of palaeoenvironmental data available for Cyprus. Part of this deficiency is taken care ofrnin this volume, although it primarily focuses on a relatively small area: the Gialias River watershed in central Cyprus. I write this review as an archaeologist, thus many of my comments do not deal with Devillers' very detailed discussions relating to geomor-phology. Since the volume is published in an archaeological series, my perspective then focuses primarily on its geoarchaeo-logical and 'anthropisation' contents, and asks 'how useful is this volume to archaeologists?' I note that an abundance of complex technical data are presented in the volume and some of the text is a bit difficult, in part because it was translated from French.
