This issue of HOSC is the first of two issues dedicated to the Krivine machine, and consists of eight technical articles. The first and the last were invited: the first is by Jean-Louis Krivine himself, who discovered the machine in the middle of the 1980s out of logical concerns [5], and the last is by Dave Schmidt, who derived the same machine from John Reynolds's work on call-by-name continuation-passing style [7] in the 1970's [10]. The other six articles in this issue were contributed and formally reviewed.
