Report on the Fourth International Conference 'Hypoxia in Medicine,' Geneva, Switzerland, September 26-28, 2001

The fourth International Conference Hyp poxia in Medicine was held in Geneva, Switzerland, on September 26-28, 2001. It was organized by the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (Moscow), Department of Sport Science; the University of Innsbruck (Austria); and the Clinical Research Laboratory of the Hypoxia Medical Academy (Moscow). Elena N. Tkatchouk, head of the latter, was president of the Organizing Committee. Thirty-six scientists from Austria, Canada, China, Great Britain, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the United States participated in the conference. This meeting was devoted mainly to intermittent hypoxia problems and consisted of three sessions: 1. Fundamental Research on Hypoxia and on Adaptation to Hypoxia 2. Normobaric Hypoxia (Interval Hypoxic Training) in Preventive and Clinical Medicine and in Sports 3. Hypobaric Hypoxia in Preventive and Clinical Medicine in Sports and in Mountain Medicine.
