Public Library And User Education

In India after fifty-five years of independence the status of public library is very degrading and even many states of India have not introduced the Library Legislation in their states. The developments of public libraries not reach required stage which necessary for our country. There are no User Education Programmes in many public libraries and reasons are many for this like lack of funds, shortage of staff and lack interest among library personnel. The Government should take more steps for enacting the Library Legislation in every state and provide more funds for the existing as well as for establishing new public libraries; As the libraries have changed so too has the role of librarians. Increasingly, librarian have assumed the role of educating their user how to find information both in library and over electronic networks. Public librarians have expanded their sales by providing local community information through publicly accessible computing systems.
