Bell Helicopter revealed not one but three Short Light Single full scale mockups at HeliExpo on 25 February together with the new Model 505 type designation and official name Jet Ranger X, chosen after consideration of a number of options including Turbo Ranger and at least one taken from ancient Egyptian mythology. Each of the mockups represented a different configuration, including law enforcement and executive passenger layouts, whilst the third utility version featured a considerable level of internal detail with outer panels removed. This included real main rotor blades, transmission and flight controls as well as a 475shp Turbomeca Arrius 2R powerplant, with wiring looms and other components installed to test the design functionality. Whilst the dynamic system is based on the Model 206L-4, noticeable is the switch from rod operation to cable-operated tail rotor controls and the complete absence of composites in the structural make up, except for easily repaired surface panels.
