Rarely do we encounter a product, whether in the realm of purist two-channel audio or home cinema, that has the capacity to redefine expectations in its market so significantly as SIM2's C3X projector, reviewed exclusively back in Oct '05. At a time when top-end, three-chip DLP projectors warranted a price-tag of some £20k, SIM2's more compact but even higher performance three-chipper proved a revelation at only £14k. The question remained, however, whether its £11k C3X Lite model would deliver an equally impressive performance from a reduced 150W light engine; particularly once competitor InFocus announced a huge price cut from £20k to £10k for its stunning 777. With both projectors now installed in the AVTech cinema, the stage is set for a titanic head-to-head.
