Home cinema technology is evolving at a heady pace, conferring very real benefits to AV enthusiasts but creating a real headache for specialist producers hoping to challenge the likes of Pioneer, Denon and other giants. In order to compete, companies such as Primare are obliged to tackle the audio-visual market from a slightly different angle. Specifically, Primare has earned a reputation for great sounding hi-fi products, combining the Swedish flair for understated yet classy styling with an intuitive understanding of minimalist but robust audio engineering. There's no reason why that same approach cannot be applied to digital video. The DVD26 does not support DVD-A or SACD, so there's no need for a multi-channel analogue output or, indeed, an HDMI digital output. Which also means there's no 5.1-channel Dolby or DTS decoder.
