Musical Fidelity's Antony Michaelson is a man on a mission. His quest to rescue the audio enthusiast from the limitations of under-powered amplifiers and realise therntrue dynamic range of modern day recordings is rapidly becoming something of a cause celebre. There will always be audiophiles that maintain that a 20W single-ended triode amplifier is sufficient when, in practice, it's unlikely to raise more than a whimper unless partnered with some super-sensitive, horn-loaded monstrosity of a loudspeaker. As you might gather, I'm a little more sympathetic to MF's world view.
