Sony's PS3 may have been out for just 14 months in the UK, but already there are rumours of a PS4 later this year. The reason? It seems Sony thinks that the OS is not flexible enough to take full advantage of the power and features of the unit's chip. The PS4 may simply offer a revamped OS, along with a few changes to peripherals, such as the motion-sensing wireless dual shock controllers, but it sounds to me like Sony is reeling from the impact of Nintendo's Wii. As such it is looking long-term, hoping to win the war having lost the battle Meanwhile, Panasonic's BD-30 Blu-ray player has had a run of only four months before being rendered obsolete by the upcoming BD-50. To be launched in June, the BD-50, like Sony's PS3, will support Profile 2. As for the Denon 2500BT Blu-ray DVD transport, this hasn't even hit the stores yet, but the fact that it doesn't support Profile 2 might undermine its competitiveness. In short, new technology is being released onto the market too fast. There is even a Blu-ray Profile 3 on the way, which will relate to Blu-ray audio-only players. Where will it all stop!
