Instead of recalling 2009 as a year of gloom, thus entering 2010 as a harbinger of doom, it behoves me to act like Pollyanna. Twenty six years as HFN's court jester entitles me to that, I suppose, and all you need to do is turn on the news if you prefer to be suicidal. Moreover, I have been told repeatedly not to touch on subjects only peripherally related to high-end audio, eg Harriet Harman (nothing whatsoever to do with Kardon), Peter Mandelson, etc. So, with ear-to-ear grin, I prefer to write of highlights such as SHM-CD, Blu-spec CD, the vinyl and HDCD revivals, the world's first 'hackable' Blu-ray player and other joys that I experienced during the past 12 months.
