To be planted the No. 34 position in Rolling Stone's 'Top 500 Greatest Albums of All Time' is pretty much to assure a disc's immortality. Back in 1968, this album changed the musical landscape so radically that few knew quite what to make of it, while at the same time embracing it. 'Much loved' is the only way to describe this melange of Bob Dylan's influence and patronage, early R&B and most other forms of Americana. It is safe to say that it virtually created the roots music revival, amusingly via a predominantly Canadian group of musicians who simply meshed like a burlap weave. For 'The Weight' alone, this belongs in any enlightened music collection. Not merely a classic, but a stone-gone, blue-chip masterpiece.
