The Beatles Re-masters

For some, it was never going to be a foregone conclusion: The Beatles' catalogue means too much to too many people. And among those people are fanatics who make the most anally-retentive audiophile look positively blase. Two box sets of completely re-mastered material, containing 217 songs in stereo and 185 in mono, the newest of which is 40 years old, spread over 29 CDs - that's an awful lot of territory for hypercritical obsessives to dismember or disembowel. The knives are out, just as they were 22 years ago, when The Beatles' music moved to CD. And then the slicing was warranted, for the CDs seemed thin and weak in comparison to LPs... let alone cassettes.
