Like the majority of the world's consumer electronics manufacturers, Pioneer ceased developing new stereo components subsequent to the launch of DVD, focusing its engineering resources on multichannel AV receivers and DVD players instead. Only recently did the company introduce its new 'G-Clef series of 'pure audio' components [see HFN June '07] developed in collaboration with recording engineers at Sir George Martin's AIR Studios in London.rnTwo years on and the range has been given a makeover, Pioneer claiming under-the-bonnet tweaks to power supplies and circuit layouts to improve their performance. On the outside it's clear that some criticisms of the original modelsrnhave been taken on board, these new PD-D6 and A-A6 MK2 components (and their more expensive D9/A9 siblings) featuring improved displays that are far more legible. Gone too are the plastic credit card-sized remote controllers to be replaced by sturdy metal handsets..
