That bloomin' Kanye West seems to be everywhere at the moment. His recent collaborative CD with Malik Yusef is still picking up plaudits and here he is again producing and guesting on Ben Hudson's second album. The result, in cuts like the slightly twisted piano ballad, 'Time', and the world-weary 'Supernova', could almost be a North London-born-on-the-wrong-side-of-the-blanket half-brother to Kanye's astonishing 808s & Heartbreak. Hudson's deliciously fragile (and subtly auto-tuned) vocals are shown off to particularly great advantage on the track 'Stiff Upper Lip', which somehow manages to blend sampled banjo picking with scratches and lyrics as quintessentially English as anything by the magnificent Prefab Sprout at their best.
