Back in '65, Motown was a juggernaut, a hit machine without equal, and one of its 'Most Valuable Players' was performer/ writer/arranger Smokey Robinson. With the Miracles, he delivered classy 45s and LPs to match the best of the Four Tops and the Temptations, creating songs so irresistible that other artists could re-record them and have hits at almost the same time. This LP, for example, yielded 'The Tracks of My Tears', which charted a mere two years later for Johnny Rivers. As a slice of pure Motown 'guy group', this LP, the first to bill the group as Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, embodies everything the label brought to the airwaves, with the added bonus of Smokey's silky vocals.
