Very low distortion (just 0.002% through bass and midrange) plus a flat, extended response (-0.3dB/100kHz) characterises the A-A9 whose stiffly-regulated PSU suggests it's less beefy than the Astintrew. The 2×70W/8ohm output is just on specification while the 70W/125W dynamic output into 8/4ohm is the lowest in test. But 210W/280W into 2/1 ohm proves it's actually gutsier than the AT2000 and as load-tolerant as either the Primare or Roksan (see graph, below). The SACD player boasts ±0.5dB linearity over a full 130dB dynamic range and although the 200psec jitter spectrum betrays a less-than-clean noise floor, distortion is well-managed (just 0.0009% at 1 kHz and 0.001% at 20kHz, both -20dBFs). The Legato CD mode trades better transient performance for poorer filtering.
