Electro calls this a 'Class A' Reference Amplifier and it probably is up to a few tens of Watts but certainly not the 400W of its rated specification. At idle, its power consumption is 95W (not the 220W quoted on its website) increasing to 720W at 400W/8ohm. Of course the AW400 is not short on grunt, delivering 430W into 8ohm and just shy of 700W into 4ohm with a whopping 1.4kW available under dynamic conditions into 2ohm [see Graph 1, below].
