MICROMEGA AS-400 (￡3900)

Not only is the AS-400 deceptively heavy [see inside shot, p34] but it's also very powerful, the Class D modules (from UcD) delivering 2x200W/8ohm and 2x360W/4ohm with sufficient headroom to accommodate peaks of 235W, 440W, 400W and 235W into 8, 4, 2 and lohm loads under dynamic conditions [see Graph 1, below]. Moreover, the output impedance is a very uniform 0.02-0.05ohm across the audio range, the inductive peak of 0.33ohm occuring at a very high 100kHz. As a result its response, gently rolled off to -0.65dB/20kHz to -7.8dB/100kHz, is very consistent with different speaker loads just as distortion holds to a steady 0.008-0.013% across the audio range at 10W.
