As much as I adore the work of Cordon Jenkins, I am partial to the arrangements and conducting skills of Billy May. Jenkins' affinity for Cole was remarkable, his style closer to Cole's mellow approach, but May's pizzazz punctuated the laidback crooner's restraint in the manner of the specks of chilli found in a plate of pasta 'Aglio e Olio'. His work for Cole on this 1957 release resulted in one of the swingin'est track selections in the Cole canon: 'These Foolish Things Remind Me Of You', 'Don't Get Around Much Anymore', 'Just One Of Those Things' and a 'Who's Sorry Now?' far removed from Connie Francis' aching take. Terrific liner notes by Michael Fremer.
