Auto-bias ensures this is a 'plug 'n play' amplifier that looks after itself, achieving a steady power output and consistent distortion after just a few minutes. Indeed, the 'burn-in' test revealed 2.5% THD at 1 W/8ohm after 30 seconds, a figure that held true over the next 30 minutes of constant driving. There's no avoiding the fact that distortion is very high, however, as the Piccolo [like the Due Trenta SE, see HFN Apr '12] employs little or no compensation.
