The bane of critical listeners

Saturday, June the 9th was blisteringly hot. The main street in my little Northern California town was closed for the annual 'Art, Wine, and Music Festival', an event I would have avoided were it not for the fact that a favourite musical act was slated to perform that afternoon. Chuck Prophet and his band, including his wife and collaborator, Stephanie Finch, took to the stage as promised at 4pm, launching a high-energy set that included original material such as Finch's lovely 'Tina Goodbye' and covers of songs by The Flamin' Croovies, a San Francisco group that may rightly claim to be the world's greatest unknown rock band.
