In the comfortable, softly-lit, red-plush padded hush of the small cinema, a select audience of audio journalists sat expectantly. A suave, calm American was stepping up to the lectern. Most of those present had never seen him before. His name was a legend, though his face was unknown. But as soon as he opened his mouth and spoke a single quiet word, there came a great wave of recognition and familiarity. They all knew his voice as if it were their own. It was the voice of the Shure Audio Obstacle test records. The speaker was one of Shure's senior engineers, C Roger Anderson, and the occasion was one of the celebrated Shure Technical Seminars, held in London in the heyday of the VI5 cartridge.
