Don't be put off by the fact that Butch vig is at the mixing desk. Cranked guitars and biscuit-tin snares may have characterised his earlier work with The Pixies and fellow grunge scenesters, but he brought real polish to Nirvana's Nevermind and continues to refine his craft on Siamese Dream. While musically a set for those with more adventurous tastes, it's a journey worth undertaking, if only for the guitar work on 'Soma'. It really is that sublime. The album also benefits sonically from being spread over two LPs here.
