High resolution audio is coming ever closer to being a meaningful part of day-to-day listening. The choice of material is still not a patch on what is available on physical formats but the catalogues are growing all the time. With the increase in choice has come an explosion of streamers and DACs able to make the most of high resolution material. DACs in particular have undergone a spectacular resurgence in numbers and this has prompted Arcam to return to a category that it was instrumental in creating in the first place. Exactly who released the first standalone digital-to-analogue converter remains a source of lively debate but Arcam has as strong a claim as any company.
