Off the Leash... a show down

I was somewhat stirred by Ken Kessler's dismissive comment on the Whittlebury Show [HFN Dec '11] when he said that he 'wouldn't even visit it through astral projection'. I confess to having some self-interest, living, as I do, in Northamptonshire but it would be interesting to have an explanation as to why Ken feels as he does. Whittlebury Hall has excellent facilities and spacious free car parking. True, there may be logistical problems for exhibitors with the venue not being close to a major airport. But for people like myself, getting to shows in London, Manchester or Bristol is a major expense. It is all very well for for journalists who enjoy expenses-paid trips around the world to cherry pick the best shows, but it is not like that for me and others. I have a great respect for Ken Kessler but, rather than passing on harmful comments, he should be encouraging success that we can all enjoy.
