Acoustic Energy is a global loudspeaker brand. Its headquarters is on the outskirts of Cirencester, Gloucestershire, where R&D engineers and product designers work in alliance with large purchasing and manufacturing facilities in the Far East. While its bread and butter comes from entry-level and midrange hi-fi speakers, every marque needs flagship models to which consumers may aspire. For Acoustic Energy it's the high-end 'compact monitor' concept - on which the foundations of the company were first built in 1987 with the original metal-coned AE1 and AE2. It's frankly rather charming that those seminal products created a brand that has endured. That first AE1 was competing for audiophiles' purchasing pounds with the likes of Celestion's SL6 and SL600 standmounts.
