Based in Berlin, Burmester Audiosysteme was founded in 1977 by Dieter Burmester. He was a guitarist with a touring rock band before he applied himself to engineering and began working in the field of electronic measuring equipment for the medical profession. His company's first product was the 777 preamplifier, introduced in the seventh month of 1977. Three years later the 808 preamp was the firm's first to employ plug-in modules that could be configured to taste. In 1991 Burmester introduced its belt-driven CD transport, quickly followed by the 001 integrated CD player using belt drive that remained in production until superseded by this flagship 069 model.
