As debut albums go, this 1969 release was a killer: only seven tracks, but among them were 'Dreams', 'Every Hungry Woman', 'It's Not My Cross To Bear' and the monumental 'Whipping Post'. While the band wouldn't enjoy A-list status until their third, live LP propelled them to superstardom, a devoted following was already in place. After all, the band's work was based around the sublime blues compositions and keyboard artistry of Gregg Allman and the peerless guitar work of his brother Duane - a man whose name should never be left off any list that reads Clapton-Hendrix-Beck-Page. This is the paragon of Southern Rock. (And they've reissued it on 180g vinyl, too.) .
