ADC ACCUTRAC 4000 (Vintage)

This spectacular example of British ingenuity requires the services of its LED-equipped ADC LMA-1 'induced-magnet' pick-up to make full use of its automation, but this cartridge does not allow us to explore the full potential of the deck itself. With my test cartridge installed - a selected Ortofon 2M Red, used for all our turntable measurements - the Accutrac 4000 readily exceeded the -50dB rumble (DIN B or A-wtd) reported by Donald Aldous in these very pages [HFN Jan 77]. A through-groove figure of -68.7dB illustrates the efficacy of the supplied rubber mat as, without it, the 1.4kg alloy platter rings like a bell.
