Tailoring sound with DSP

I'd like to say how much I enjoyed the recent article written by Barry Willis [see HFN Oct '12] in which he explored the differences between dynamically compressed, but accurate, domestic loudspeakers and inaccurate, but dynamic-sounding, professional designs. The differences Barry outlined are demonstrably true, which leads me on to a few observations I have made: I recently moved my main system from a room with a low and downwards-slanting ceiling to a newly built one of similar floor area and dimensions, but which has a high apex ceiling. One result was that the subjective volume from my system doubled.
